Mystical and Magical Costumes for your Next Party

Although Halloween is the time of year when costume parties prevail; this type of get together is fun and festive any time of year.  If there is a costume party in your future – perhaps it’s time to plan one? – check out some of these mystical and magical costume ideas.  Any one of these costumes may be suitable (and customizable) for children or adults.  Even if you don’t find your absolute favorite within these suggestions; perhaps they will get you thinking of your ideal garb.

For the guy who wants to stand out in the crowd, going back in time does wonders.  There are several characters from which to choose, Odysseus, Achilles or Alexander the Great being some of the most well-known.  To portray any one of these great men, a Trojan helmet is needed, as are sandals.  Either of these can be easily obtained; the Trojan helmet purchased online and the sandals made right at home if necessary.  Finding appropriate Greek sandals without renting from a costly costume rental shop can be difficult, so making sandals using inexpensive flip flops, brown ribbon and hot glue is far simpler.

Once you’ve got your Trojan helmet ordered, decide which Greek hero you’d like to portray.  Each is known for some specific fete, so your costume is customizable based on that.  Odysseus, for example, might wear a toga, his Trojan helmet, and be accompanied by a horse (as he is known for the Trojan Horse scheme).  Achilles could have a sword going through his lower calf; which could be adhered with skin-friendly costume glue and some fake blood.  The Greek soldier, of course, may be accompanied by his Greek Goddess.

Superheroes are always fun to play whether child or adult is dressing up.  There’s just something special about donning the blue suit with the giant S on the chest; or the black Cat Woman bodysuit.  What’s great about Superhero costumes is that they work for a single person or for an entire group.  If your whole family is attending a party together, you could each dress as your favorite X-Men character or go as The Incredibles (an idea the kids might love)!

For newlyweds, or just for the girly girl, dressing as a Fairy Princess is a very special thing.  A Fairy Princess costume may model a specific princess like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty or Snow White; or may be an actual fairy with glittery wings and a flowing dress.  With this costume idea, your imagination really can guide you.  Some staples might include long flowing curls and dewey skin (obtained with the help of cosmetic glitter) as well as clothing replete with ribbons.  A great accessory for a Fairy Princess could be a furry friend or a sweet songbird affixed to the shoulder.

Dressing up is not just child’s play.  When a costume party is in order, there are tons of options for fun and fanciful outfits.  Instead of sticking with the obvious pirate or scary monster, think outside the box and morph into a famous historical figure or fantasy-world character for a unique spin all your own.
